Hebden Wood 30.04.2014

Michael and I had a walk through the wood and we found troops of Helvella acetabulum scattered along the side of the path.

Vinegar Cup (Helvella acetabulum).

Michael's photo above.

Peziza violacea

Found these at Mill Bank, near Sowerby Bridge today. They were in someone's garden fire-basin which they had covered with plywood presumably in an attempt to keep it dry.

I lifted the plywood off and found the rain had got in and wet the ashes where I was pleased to find these colourful gems. They actually looked more pinky-violet than the photo.

I kept a few specimens.

Elland Park Wood 17.04.2014

Pictured below is what Michael and I found on our walk through the wood with Basil.

I'm not surprised that it is known to be one of the finest Bluebell woods in Yorkshire, they were amazing - Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta).

We came across some white ones that Michael managed to capture brilliantly.

Pale Bramble Rust (Kuehneola uredinis) on Rubus fruticosus stems -Michael's photograph above and mine below.

Spores angular/ovoid and verrucose.

Bitter Chocolate Rust (Uromyces ficariae) on Lesser Celandine (Ranunculus ficaria).

Teliospores ovoid to irregular with a single apical pore.

A species of Xylaria, probably Candlesnuff Fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon) above and below.

Reticularia lycoperdon.

Hathershelf Scout Wood 11.04.2014

Photographs of the Vinegar Cup (Helvella acetabulum) in situ. I counted nine specimens in total but I'm not sure that all of them will make it to maturity as the slugs keep on having a nibble.

Michael's photograph above and mine below.

Broadhead Clough 11.04.2014

This morning Michael and I were happy to see that the Bog Beacon (Mitrula paludosa) has returned.

It was great to see that Mike Henshaw has returned from Oz and back at Cromwell Bottom once again. We had a chat in the car park before I did a loop of the reserve.

Hathershelf Scout Wood 07.04.2014

I wasn't going to have a walk before I picked Oliver up from school as I had already been to the Crags earlier in the day so I didn't take my camera. I arrived at school early so I had twenty minutes to spare and I thought I might as well have a look in the wood and it's lucky I did otherwise I wouldn't have found these specimens of Vinegar Cup (Helvella acetabulum).

Photographed later when I returned home.
