Brearley Wood 11.02.14

I haven't been here for a while and it's virtually on my doorstep so I thought I had better check to see if I could find another record of Heteromycophaga glandulosae, which I did.

Mollisia melaleuca on a decorticated stump.

Jelly Ear (Auricularia auricula-judae) on Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus).

Another record of Heteromycophaga glanulosae on Exidia glandulata. Dorsal view above and ventral view below.

Exidia plana on Beech (Fagus sylvatica).

Lemon Disco (Bisporella citrina).

  1. Brearley Wood was a bluebell wood in the 90's. When the Himalayan Balsam arrived it filled it up really quickly. It wouldn't have been showing on 11th Feb.

  2. Hi Steve,
Peachy and I went to Ripponden today and there was one Himalayan Balsam seedling growing in the wood and we commented that it was too early to be seeing it in February. We didn't see anymore though, just the one.

  3. Brearley wood is still good for bluebells though not as spectacular as Park wood.

  4. Well, I hope the display is better than last year when the extremely cold spring stunted their growth.
