Withens Clough 11-07-13

It was the Halifax Scientific Society's walk this afternoon to look at bog plants, lead by Hugh Firman and there was a good attendance on this beautiful summers day. In the field we found this Panaeolus semiovatus growing on some cow dung, and thankfully the cows today were better behaved than the feisty heifers at Wade Wood.

Pear Rust

These brilliant orange spots appear on my pear leaves every summer, never in huge numbers.
In the sunshine a little clear liquid appears from the spots. It alternates between Pear and Juniper, though I haven't found  it in winter on either of the two species of Juniper I have in the garden.

Dog's Vomit Slime Mould 09-07-13

This morning, Basil (my dog) was really poorly with vomiting and diarrhoea, so it was definitely a coincidence that the only specimen I found today was Dog's Vomit Slime Mould.

Wade Wood 08-07-13

A comedy foray that Michael Sykes and I will not forget, involving a bossy herd of young heifers and Basil (my dog). I just wish I had taken some video footage as it involved some very funny moments that we will remember forever. That is why we only managed to capture one species of fungi as we were being stalked in particular by a very persistent dominant cow, much to Basils disgust, however he was shielded by the brave and mighty matador Michael and his walking stick .

Ophiocordyceps ditmarii 04-07-13

Myself and Michael Sykes had a walk through Cragg Vale this morning and we stopped to look and photograph the water wheel, and as we were stood looking we happened to find the best example of a Ophiocordyceps ditmarii so far this year, poking out through a patch of moss. It was 70 mm long, very mature and Michael managed to capture it amazingly

Shelf Park 03-07-13

Michael Sykes and I had a stroll through Shelf Park this morning and we found some very pretty specimens of Mycena acicula in various stages of maturity.

Common Eyelash (Scutellinia scutellata).

An immature Jelly Ear (Auricularia auricula - judae).

Glistening Inkcap (Coprinus micaceus), Michael's photo.

These photographs of the Mycena acicula above and below, were taken later at home.

The tallest stem measured 40 mm.

The smallest stems were 12 mm.

An aged Dryad's Saddle (Polyporus squamosus).

Michael also found some tiny (2-3 mm) beautiful, bright Myxomycetes that I took home and photographed later.
